Legal Nurse Consultant

Full Time and Part Time Positions Available

Summary:

Apply nursing education and professional clinical expertise to the medically-related issues of the litigation process.  Evaluate and analyze medical, as well as corresponding billing records and other related documents of plaintiffs, to render informed conclusions on the validity of the claimant’s injury in regards to legal settlements.

Duties and Responsibilities include:    

  • Familiarize and perform a systematic medical assessment of relevant case information within documents and records available in the client file.
  • Enter and maintain accurate vital medical facts and notes into assigned database (e.g. Needles), as well as document (bookmark) relevant pages within the records for future reference.  
  • Order additional records to support and/or substantiate and claimant’s injuries.
  • Communicate and correspond with medical review supervisor, attorney and/or paralegal assigned to a project, regarding problem-solving questions and clarification of unusual issues or medical facts that arise case to case.  
  • Conduct medical and/or literature research for clarification of medical issues for accurate data entry.
  • Provide additional time necessary to address questions from the clients regarding specific facts and criteria upon which the medical conclusions were based.  
  • Be prepared to defend and/or correct conclusions and findings based on any client appeals of factual inaccuracies or errors.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, with other reviewers on a weekly basis or as needed to coordinate reviews and discuss pertinent issues.
  • As assigned by the medical review supervisor, assist in other related and/or miscellaneous projects.
  • Maintain good standing of Registered Nurse licensure through the Texas Board of Nursing and assume professional conduct as defined by the Nursing Practice Act. And, if applicable, follow the Standards of Legal Nurse Consulting Practice as defined by the respective Legal Nurse Consulting Association (e.g. American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants) from which certification has been obtained.

Requirements:

Education/Training

  • Registered Professional Nurse
  • Preferably with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Experience

  • Clinical Nursing
  • Prefer experience as a Legal Nurse Consultant or in Risk Management

Skills

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Adobe
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Must be able to follow detailed instructions and easily adapt to changes in the litigation process
